NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C.– Trident United Way has received a $10,625 grant through United Way Worldwide from Truist Foundation to advance its bold community goal of uplifting 15,000 families out of poverty by 2035.
The grant will support Family Coaching, a core part of Trident United Way’s work to help families build financial stability and take the next step toward their long-term goals.
Across the Tri-County, 129,589 households, or 37%, live below the ALICE® Threshold. ALICE stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed and describes working households that earn above the federal poverty level but still fall short of the cost of basics like housing, childcare, food, transportation and health care.
For many families, the path to stability can be disrupted by barriers that build on each other: rent rising faster than pay, a car repair that threatens a job, a childcare gap that interrupts work or a medical bill that knocks an already tight budget off track.
Through Family Coaching, families work one-on-one with a trained coach to look at the full picture: income, expenses, immediate needs and long-term goals. Coaches meet families where they are, help them build workable budgets, connect to resources, reduce debt, build credit and increase income over time.
