Support right where families live.

Thrive@Home™ is a joint initiative powered by Trident United Way and the Charleston Workforce Housing Fund, working together to bring trusted, personalized support directly into affordable apartment communities across Charleston County.

For many families, housing is the foundation for stability. It affects whether parents can get to work, whether children can remain in the same classroom and whether a household has enough breathing room to plan for what comes next.

Too many families in our region are being priced out of that stability. In the Charleston metro area, only 31 affordable homes exist for every 100 families who need them, and roughly 72% of renters are cost-burdened. Roughly 1 in 5 Charleston renter households faced eviction filings last year.

Thrive@Home™ meets families where they are, right where they live. By placing trusted support just beyond a family’s doorstep, Thrive@Home™ helps break down barriers like transportation, system complexity and lack of awareness, making support easier to access, more timely and more connected.

How it Works

  • Personalized Support: Family Coaches help residents navigate urgent needs, connect to benefits and local resources, and create a plan based on their goals.
  • Stability Planning: Residents continue working with Family Coaches to reduce debt, build savings, increase income and move toward long-term financial stability.

Thrive@Home Available Services Include

  • One-on-One Guidance from Family Coaches: Personalized, confidential coaching to help residents set goals, build workable budgets, reduce debt, increase savings and plan for long-term stability.
  • Crisis Prevention: Help navigating urgent needs such as eviction, utility shutoffs, transportation loss or other short-term financial challenges before they become larger setbacks.
  • Access to Benefits: Support applying for SNAP, Medicaid, child care subsidies, tax credits and other resources that can help ease pressure on family budgets.
  • Debt Reduction and Income Growth: Strategies to increase earnings, reduce debt and build emergency savings.

  • On-Site and Virtual Support: Confidential support available in person at apartment communities or through phone, text or online connection.

Affordable rent helps a family stay housed. Family Coaching helps that family build the next layer of stability. Thrive@Home™ brings both together, helping residents take practical steps toward lasting financial stability.
