About Trident United Way
For over 75 years Trident United Way has been the catalyst for measurable community transformation in education, financial stability and health. We understand that complex community issues are best solved when many partners work together with a common agenda. Trident United Way has a proud history of developing community-wide initiatives, including leading the process in the creation of our community’s 211 Information and Referral Helpline and the Resource Connection Centers.
Together, we are working to:
Improve educational outcomes for all students well before kindergarten. Every child will be supported from birth, to be prepared for school, meet grade-level standards and graduate from high school prepared for employment or higher education.
Build access and share community tools that break down barriers to financial stability. Our neighbors have an opportunity and the tools for personal advancement; from crisis, to financial stability, to self-sufficiency.
Create a healthier community by making it easier for partners to work together. Our neighbors will have access to health care, know how to lead healthy lives and be empowered to live and participate in environments that promote good health.
Trident United Way works to make real, long-lasting change through collective impact initiative, a systematic approach in which many partners agree in advance on how they will approach the issue at hand and how they will determine success. These collaborations require a backbone organization to manage the partnership and ensure communication among the partners. Trident United Way often plays that backbone role.
The Tri-County Community
Consistently named among Condé Nast Traveler's top 10 US destinations, Charleston, South Carolina is a world-class city. Beautifully preserved historic sites, outstanding resorts and recreational facilities, and its premier waterfront location attract millions of visitors and new residents to the Charleston area each year. With a mild year-round climate, miles of beaches and waterways, a burgeoning young professional scene and several up-and-coming neighborhoods, the region is thriving, even during difficult economic times. This influx of diverse people of all ages, backgrounds, and origins also sustains an incredible array of world cuisine, shopping, and cultural amenities rarely found in markets of similarly sized communities and are well documented in the national media. The Tri-County region is also home to several colleges and universities, which greatly influence the vibrancy and diversity of the community. Growth in the economy has been spurred by the recent addition of The Boeing Company, Mercedes-Benz Vans and Volvo along with a growing number of high tech and entrepreneurial companies. The region’s population of over 800,000 is predicted to continue growing in the next few years.
