Trident United Way back to school drive tops goal

school drive, $43K raised

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC - Thanks to overwhelming response from corporate and individual donors, Trident United Way surpassed its goal of 2,000 backpacks donated during its annual back to school supply drive.

The final count is 2,700 backpacks that all contain essential school items like paper, pencils, erasers, folders, glue sticks, crayons, colored pencils and much more! Thanks to our friends at UPS, they donated warehouse space, trucks and personnel to load and distribute the items to six area schools.

Around 100 volunteers came to Firefly Distillery, who donated space, to sort through the school supplies and fill up the backpacks.  Trident United Way hosted a backpack filling party for volunteers on its Young Leaders United group who organized the online drive.

This event was a smashing success thanks to individual and corporate donors who raised $43,000 to purchase the backpacks and school supplies.

Top corporate donors include:

  • Agents of Carolina One Real Estate
  • Johnson & Johnson
  • Elliott Davis
  • Ingevity
  • Equiscript

The school supply drive is just one of many projects Trident United Way does to further education in the Tri-County.
