NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – Trident United Way has launched the End of Year Give A Way, an 80-day community-wide campaign to raise $2 million by Dec. 31 to help local families build lasting financial stability. The campaign has raised more than $320,000 in its first 15 days.
For the first time, Give A Way brings Trident United Way’s year-end fundraising and volunteer efforts together through workplace giving, corporate investments, individual gifts and volunteer service. Twelve local business leaders committed a combined $120,000 before the campaign’s Oct. 13 launch.
Across the Tri-County, nearly 130,000 households, or 37%, live below the ALICE® Threshold. Some are in poverty. Most are ALICE: Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed, earning above the federal poverty level but still unable to afford the basics. Holiday expenses stretch those budgets further.
Give A Way is about more than giving something away. It is about giving local families a way forward.
Donations help more families access a trusted Family Coach who listens, helps build a plan around the goals they set, connects them with resources and stays alongside them as they reach lasting financial stability.
Give A Way gift cards and Houses of Hardship bring the campaign into stores and community spaces across the three counties, each with an immediate way to take part.
Give A Way Gift Cards
Give A Way gift cards offer a holiday gift that supports local families. The cards are free to pick up at participating locations across the Tri-County.
Pick up a card, scan its QR code and make a donation in someone’s honor. Then write that person’s name on the card and give it to them.
Businesses interested in hosting a display can contact Alisha Owens, Vice President of Marketing and Communications, at aowens@tuw.org.
Houses of Hardship
Fifteen miniature Lowcountry-style houses will appear across Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties, drawing attention to financial pressures that often go unseen in our own neighborhoods.
From the outside, a home may appear stable and secure. Behind its front door, a family may be weighing groceries against rent or an unexpected car repair.
Each house features a QR code linking to TUW.org/HousesOfHardship, where visitors can learn more and take part.
