Announcing the D. Michael Wilson and Pam Wilson Trident United Way 211 $100K Challenge

 

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC –Trident United Way is proud to announce the D. Michael Wilson and Pam Wilson Trident United Way 211 $100K Challenge, thanks to a generous gift from the D. Michael Wilson and Pam Wilson Foundation.

Noted business leaders and community advocates, D. Michael Wilson and Pam Wilson are leading the charge to raise $100,000 for Trident United Way’s 211 Helpline. The Wilson’s will match contributions to Trident United Way, dollar for dollar, up to $50,000, starting on Tuesday Nov. 30 through Thursday Dec. 2. The challenge is part of Trident United Way’s annual GivingTuesday event.

Trident United Way’s 211 Helpline can help people and families access local resources that are all around them. The 211 guides on the other end of the phone line are caring navigators that connect callers to resources for food, healthcare services, mental health and other resources available in Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester Counties.

In 2021, requests for assistance are across the board on the 211 Helpline. Tri-County calls to 211 are up 24% during the first half of 2021 (Jan. to June) compared with 2020. First half 2021 referrals for rent assistance are up 35%, water bill assistance is up 122% and motel vouchers are up an astounding 756% compared with 2020.

“People have stepped up during the pandemic and I think what we have to realize now we’re getting control of COVID, gradually, slowly, but the needs aren’t going away," D. Michael Wilson said. "The needs are no less than they were before. This is the community in which we live and we feel like we need to support our neighbors and those in need in the community,”
