Older adults find comfort in their homes during hot summer months

Elderly woman standing outsideSummer temperatures in the Tri-County can be unbearably hot-- often over 90 degrees! Our community also has many older homes and older residents who do not have access to air conditioning. Trident United Way’s partnership with Operation Home’s Cool Breeze program provides AC units to our neighbors who do not have the ability to get a cooling unit for their homes.

“Betty”, a senior client, was without central heating/ air in her home after her unit was stolen several years ago. In the hot summer months she would often sit outside on her porch to cool off. Our Berkeley Resource Connection Center was able to help her with an Operation Cool Breeze application, which was quickly approved. Betty was thrilled to get her new AC unit so quickly, and so thankful she would be able to stay cool through the rest of the season.

“To see the joy on her face when she came to pick it up was everything,” said Berkeley Resource Connection Center Case Manager LaToya Lewis. “She was truly grateful for Operation Cool Breeze.”
