Tri-County Hurricane Matthew Recovery Fund Update

As of November 4, 2016:

Thanks to your generous contributions directed to the Tri-County Hurricane Matthew Recovery Fund, a partnership between Trident United Way and The Post and Courier, together we have raised $181,179 which includes the TUW dollar for dollar match, up to $100,000. The contributions to the fund have been from a variety of sources including individuals, corporations and the fundraising efforts at a concert featuring the Grammy-nominated group Band of Horses.

SCE&G set the pace with an early corporate contribution of $50,000 to the Tri-County Hurricane Matthew Recovery Fund. “Just as our crews worked to restore power to the thousands of customers impacted by Hurricane Matthew, Trident United Way works constantly to connect volunteers and resources where they’re needed most in the community,” said Bill Turner, vice president of electric operations. “We’re proud to support their efforts to help with hurricane recovery efforts and support our local neighbors in need.”

Steve Barnett, manager for Band of Horses, contacted TUW about a few opportunities to raise money for Tri-County Hurricane Matthew Recovery Fund. Fundraising activities included an auction for an exclusive mid-day concert, autographed guitar give-away, limited-edition signed posters and individual donation collections. The proceeds from these events totaled more than $4,300.

Through November 4, Tri-County Hurricane Matthew Recovery Fund has issued

$72,836 in reimbursement grants that are being invested into our community through local nonprofits assisting with hurricane recovery.

These gifts have directly enabled these 9 nonprofits and faith organizations to serve hurricane victims with:

All donations received by the Tri-County Hurricane Matthew Recovery Fund will go directly to organizations in the Tri-County area providing relief to individuals and families affected by Hurricane Matthew. Trident United Way will underwrite all administrative costs associated with dispersing these funds, and 100% of funds received will go directly to supporting storm recovery efforts.  In the unlikely case all funds are not expended, remaining funds will be set aside in a reserve fund for exclusive use during future disaster response efforts.
