As a way of honoring April as National Financial Literacy Month, the Prosperity Centers held a Finance & Food Trucks event at Calvary Church of God in Christ in Goose Creek on Sat. April 29 from 11 – 2 pm.
Sixteen community agencies, including Prosperity Center partners Palmetto Goodwill and Origin SC, came together for a day of financial literacy workshops, food trucks, live music and activities for children. The event offered adults a choice of free workshops to attend on a variety of topics including budgeting, paying for college and wills and estate planning. Attendees were rewarded with tickets for every workshop they attended, which could then be exchanged for free food from six local food trucks present.
Free childcare for ages 3-11 ensured adults could focus on the information being shared in the workshops. A bounce house, free train rides and face painting were just some of the activities available for the family. Community partners set up booths to educate guests on everything from veteran services and job searches to getting health coverage. Palmetto Goodwill held a career clothing pop-up that sold gently-used clothing appropriate for job interviews. Once the workshops concluded, Mike the Profit performed live music while people continued to enjoy food trucks and amusement activities.
Trident United Way wants to acknowledge and thank more than 40 volunteers who came together on the day of the event. Special thanks go to the sponsors South Carolina Federal Credit Union and Overcomers and Outreach, a ministry of Calvary Church of God in Christ.
