SC Thrive leads South Carolinians to stability by providing innovative and efficient access to quality of life resources. Adult Mental Health First Aid is an 8-hour course that helps community members identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. Just as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training helps a layperson without medical training, Mental Health First Aid training helps a layperson assist someone experiencing a mental health crisis.

Participants will go through a 5-step action plan encompassing the skills, resources, and knowledge to help an individual in crisis connect with appropriate professional, peer, social and self-help care. After completion of the entire course, each participant will be certified as a Mental Health First Aider.

After this training, the Learner will be able to:

  • Identify the prevalence of mental illnesses in the U.S. and their emotional and economic cost.
  • Identify potential warning signs and risk factors of depression, anxiety disorders, trauma, psychotic disorders, eating disorders, and substance use disorders.
  • Demonstrate a 5-step action plan to help an individual in crisis connect to professional care.
  • Identify resources available to help someone with a mental health problem.

Prerequisite: None.

Reminder: Lunch will be provided. Registration closes 2 days before the training date.

Note: Each attendee must have their own email address.
