Launching Healthy Tri-County
On January 31 2017, Roper St. Francis (RSF), MUSC Health and Trident United Way (TUW) are launching a new initiative called Healthy Tri-County. The initiative is a multi-sector regional initiative to improve health outcomes in Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester counties.
What is Healthy Tri-County?
The initiative, Healthy Tri-County, is an outcome of a series of three Tri-County Health Forums. The forums were a groundbreaking series of meetings to better understand the community’s health needs and work together to support one another’s programs aimed at improving Tri-County residents’ health.
The Tri-County Health Forums were a collaborative effort between Roper St. Francis, MUSC Health and Trident United Way. In the Summer of 2016, the three organizations together conducted a Community Tri-County Community Health Needs Assessment. The results of the assessment, combined with the information gathered at the forums, were used to identify areas of real need and informed the projects that the collective chose to undertake. The assessment, which engaged nearly 1,500 respondents, identified a number of health concerns and priorities in our region, including but not limited to, access to health care, clinical preventative services, mental health care, and maternal child health.
The initiative has the commitments of key stakeholders to provide time, talent and resources, and we are actively identifying and pursuing resources to ensure additional support for this effort. As an example, the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control will provide technical assistance and guidance for the development of the regional health improvement plan using their expertise from assisting similar efforts in communities throughout South Carolina.
What do we hope to accomplish through Healthy Tri-County?
The highest priority is the development of a regional health improvement plan, which will chart a seven year vision (2018-2025) for improving health outcomes in our region. The long-term aspirational goal is improving the health and well-being of every person and community within the Tri-County.
No single organization or institution can tackle the monumental and complex health issues facing our region. However working in partnership, adopting principles and practices of collective impact, we can make a difference.
The purpose of the Healthy Tri-County launch event is to
• announce the launch of the initiative to develop a regional health improvement plan
• hear from executive leaders from various sectors about their commitment to play a role in Healthy Tri-County
• release the 2016 Tri-County Community Health Needs Assessment report
