Six years ago, Susan Morris's life was changed forever. The single mother of two boys still remembers the time she was first told she had an extremely aggressive tumor in her chest.
Without health insurance, how could she possibly pay for such a surgery? That's when Tri-County Project Care came to her rescue. The nonprofit community-based organization provides insurance for quality health care to employed, uninsured residents of Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester counties.
"I was good to go by the time I left the office." Susan recalls.
After eight months of chemotherapy, she finally had her tumor removed. Tri-County Project Care was with her the whole way, guiding her through the complicated health care system.
Trident United Way invests $30,000 in Tri-County Project Care to reduce expensive emergency room use by uninsured clients and keep them healthy and happy.
"Tri-County Project Care is top of the line," she says. "They have the best doctors and treat you like family. Without the insurance they gave me, I would not be here today. I would not have my kids."
