You Helped Micheal "B" an "A" StudentLike many youth in the Chicora-Cherokee community, Micheal, a fifth-grader, wasn't receiving the attention and guidance he needed. Two years ago, you would have found him driving recklessly on a mini-motorcycle or walking alone down poorly lit streets at night. Now you'll find him in the Young Leaders Program at Metanoia. Young Leaders provides a safe and positive after-school environment for learning and development.
Micheal has just completed his first year as a Young Leader. He has improved his study habits and raised his reading grade from a B to an A, and maintains an overall B average.
Micheal currently serves as President of the Metanoia Boys' Club, whose members are young community advocates in the Chicora-Cherokee neighborhood. In April, Michael will take his first trip to Washington, D.C. with other fifth graders from Metanoia. He's excited to see "all of the monuments."
Because of the Young Leaders Program, Micheal is receiving the attention he needs to succeed in school and beyond. Trident United Way invests $40,000 in the Young Leaders Program. With help from this investment, every one of the kids in the program at Metanoia has improved their standardized test scores.
