DONOR INFORMATION

CONFIDENTIALITY GUIDELINES

BACKGROUND

Trident United Way appreciates the support it receives from individuals and organizations in our community.  Donors give through the Trident United Way process with the basic belief that information concerning their donation will be treated in a confidential manner.

We have established the following guidelines to assure the confidentiality of donor information.

SALE OR LEASE OF CONTRIBUTOR LISTS

Trident United Way will not sell or lease contributor lists.

 

DISTRIBUTING DONOR INFORMATION-EXTERNAL ORGANIZATIONS

Trident United Way will not share contributor information with external/unrelated organizations and/or individuals who request them. Trident United Way will not release the names of individuals who designate their contribution without a signed letter from the donor authorizing the release of such information.

 

Trident United Way provides United Way Worldwide with information that is compiled and used to assist our agency and others in carrying out their mission.  However, this information is treated in a confidential manner and any requests are reviewed as to their purpose and appropriateness prior to responding.

 

DISTRIBUTING DONOR INFORMATION TO VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers are vital to the Trident United Way process.  Their access to certain donor information is provided on a “need to know” basis for them to carry out the mission of the Trident United Way.  However, volunteers should be sensitive to donor privacy and utilize the information only in carrying out their volunteer responsibilities.  Volunteers should not distribute any donor information to unrelated organizations, causes, and individuals.  Donor information should not be discussed with others in the community for purposes other than carrying out their United Way responsibilities.

 

 DISTRIBUTING DONOR INFORMATION TO DONOR DESIGNATED AGENCIES

During Trident United Way’s annual fundraising campaign, donors may direct their gifts to the 501(c) 3 charities of their choice. Unless otherwise directed by the donor, Trident United Way does not make available information about the donor to the designated agency.
