Accomplishments:
• Developed core message: Eat the right amounts
of the right foods and get daily physical activity.
• Developed a well-researched TUW policy position
supporting local ordinances that
would
protect the health of workers by requiring all
indoor workplaces to be smoke free. Position
approved by Board of Directors April 21, 2005.
• Collected baseline data on health and healthcare
in the Trident area by contracting professional
research associates to conduct a Tri County
Health Indices Survey.
• Conducted successful focus group series with
low-income parents of school age children to
identify barriers and realistic opportunites
for improving nutrition and increasing physical
activity. Data utilized to:
--- inform nutrition
and physical activity "tips" shared
on three Citadel Communications radio stations
and television's Count on 2 morning news
--- shape the Body and
Soul Food Fest, a free event hosting 1500 people
in Park Circle that highlighted healthy lowcountry
vegetable dishes, no-cost physical activities,
and health information.
• Developed and shared with business community
our "Recipe for Workplace Wellness"
• Added value to Lowcountry Food Bank's existing
Kids Cafe program by bringing nutrition education
to the Kids Cafe Directors at their quarterly
meetings.

Added value to Mary Ford Elementary's after
school program by bringing a weekly nutrition
education and physical activity opportunity
to the K-2 graders who were not receiving this
type of programming.
