America’s giving spirit and volunteerism inspired Alexis de Tocqueville during his travels here in 1831. This inspiration is apparent in our community as each year more people choose to partner with Trident United Way in transforming our community through an annual gift of at least $10,000. We honor the men and women of our Tocqueville Society or their vision, their compassion, and their lasting impact on the lives of thousands of families and individuals in our community.

Nationally, the Tocqueville Society has over 24,000 members. Our local chapter had passed the 100 member mark, making it the largest in South Carolina. This accomplishment is all the more extraordinary considering our humble roots – with just four couples comprising the Society less than a decade ago.
