Community Volunteer Assistant

Department: 2-1-1

Reports to: 2-1-1 Community Volunteer Coordinator

Salary Range: Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience
Part-Time; Non-exempt

Position Summary:

Provide administrative support to 2-1-1 Community Volunteer Coordinator. Duties/responsibilities will include the following: maintenance and update of volunteer opportunities database for web access and publications, development of online social networking tools, support for disaster-related roles and support of signature events - Day of Caring and Tricounty Youth Service Day. Additional duties will include: coordination and scheduling of Speakers and Tours for the TUW Campaign.

This position will include occasional evening and weekend work.

Essential Responsibilities & Functions:

Update and maintain volunteer opportunities database.
    Spearhead comprehensive annual update ensuring accuracy of information, correct coding of data, and clear service descriptions.
    Update as needed with new information or corrections.
    Implement data quality tests, report results and correct identified deficiencies.
    Monitor and report web activity.

Manage Holiday Giving and Volunteering Guide.
    Compile information on holiday volunteer opportunities.
    Create document or web interface for posting opportunities.
    Keep information current - update as scheduled and/or needed.
    Assist in creation and implementation of promotion.
    Create tracking tools and utilization reports.
    Evaluate and inform planning for next year.

Day of Caring and Tricounty Youth Service Day support.
    Assist in development of promotional and training material.
    Provide technical assistance to agencies and neighborhoods in defining and posting projects.
    Provide technical assistance to companies and community groups in choosing and registering for projects.
    Prepare TUW internal reports weekly (or as needed) on projects and teams - for Campaign and Community Building.
    Assist in set up and delivery of training to projects and teams.
    Provide support on day of events.
    Prepare for wrap up and evaluation of event. (Surveys, recognition, Day of Sharing, thank yous, etc)

Disaster response and recovery
    Maintain current MOUs with partner agencies.
    Assist with maintaining ESF 18 supplies and personnel.

General administrative support
    Create and maintain online social networking sites.
    Assist in matching volunteers and opportunities.

Speakers and tours
    Develop a system for providing speakers and tours during campaign.
    Manage the speakers and tours schedule during campaign.

Required Skills and Experience:

    Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and database software
    Experience with online social networking tools
    Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including grammar and spelling
    Ability to manage multiple responsibilities independently and exercise initiative
    Ability to attend to detail and maintain accurate records
    Ability to work with colleagues in a respectful, supportive and team-oriented way

Required Education and/or Experience:
    At least one year of administrative or programmatic work experience

Preferred Education and/or Experience:
    Associate degree
    Public speaking or training experience
    Call center or non profit work experience
    Personal volunteer or civic engagement history

Director of Health

Division: Community Building

Reports To: Senior Vice President of Community Building

Salary Range: Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience


Position Summary:

Provide staff leadership for the Heath portion of the Integrated Impact Agenda in working with the Health Vision Council, funded partners and community at large. Coordinate all aspects of the Health impact area including: engaging all sectors of the community around the Agenda; developing and implementing the multi-dimensional strategies; creating and supporting work groups as necessary to achieve the objectives; creating collaborative partnerships centered around integration of the impact areas; providing technical assistance to funded partners; and establishing, measuring and evaluating the Heath community and program outcomes. The position is also responsible for providing the staff support for the community investment process for Health funded programs; securing additional resources to adequately fund initiatives; grants management and reporting; and overseeing the appropriate use of resources.

Key Responsibility Areas:

I. Impact Area Leadership/Vision Council Support

  • Provide staff leadership to the Health Vision Council (VC) and community partners regarding the Health portion of the Integrated Impact Agenda.
  • Working with the VC, fully engage the community around the Integrated Impact Agenda, building community ownership of the strategic direction.
  • Working with the VC, develop and effectively implement the Health multi-dimensional strategies.
    Create work groups as necessary to achieve the objectives and provide technical assistance to the funded partners to ensure their success in meeting the objectives.
  • Continuously research topics and keep current on relevant local and national issues, providing feedback to the VC and funded partners as appropriate.
  • Help the VC identify public policy issues; create strategic direction around the issues; present public policy issues to the Board as defined by TUW policy; monitor legislative and administrative actions of local, state, and federal governments related to TUW's Public Policy Agenda; and engage and promote action with members of the VC, Board and community to support effective advocacy on the approved issues.

II. Community Engagement and Partnership

  • Identify key stakeholders and engage all sectors of the community, including decision makers, people of influence, community leaders and nonprofit organizations around the Integrated Impact Agenda and the Health strategies.
  • Foster the development of coalitions and collaborative partnerships to advance the objectives of the agenda and provide on-going leadership and support to these groups.
  • Provide consultation to community partners on how to diminish program silos in order to maximize resources, eliminate duplication and close gaps in services.
  • Provide consultation to the community on how to facilitate systemic change toward advancing community objectives.
  • Participate on the leadership teams of community, state and national organizations whose mission and activities align with the Health portion of the Integrated Impact Agenda.
  • Establish positive working relationships with funded partners and other community organizations, effectively representing TUW in all communications.
  • Identify other programs and initiatives in the community that will increase progress toward the achievement of the community outcomes and guide the Health VC in how best to engage others.
    Work with the TUW Communications, Campaign and Major Gifts Departments to create effective strategies to promote the Health multi-dimensional strategies in the community and with donors.
    Integrate the United Way tag line objectives of: Give, Advocate, Volunteer in the promotional materials of impact agenda work.

III. Impact Measurement and Evaluation

  • Provide the staff support and information necessary for the VC to create and monitor community outcomes and indicators.
  • Assist with the development of the Community Issues Management (CIM) system to populate the database and library, and to measure, quantitatively and qualitatively, the impact of the multi-dimensional strategies of the community outcomes, including coordination with other efforts of community measurement.
  • Provide high level technical assistance to funded and prospective partners on: program infrastructure and management; program development; budget development and management; cost-benefit analysis; program evaluation of intensity, frequency and quality of interventions; program safety; and the development, measurement and reporting of program outcomes using the logic model framework.
  • Review performance of funded partner programs as related to the Health outcome that the program aligns with.

IV. Resource Development, Investment and Management

  • Identify, actively pursue and secure additional resources to support the strategic initiatives under the Health portion of the Integrated Impact Agenda. These include financial, in-kind, technology, staff and volunteer resources.
  • Manage all aspects of the Health area grants, including meeting all required deliverables, outcomes and reporting.
  • Provide the staff support necessary for the Community Investment Review Teams (CIRT) and VC volunteers to effectively evaluate programs for funding from the Letter of Intent stage through the awarding of funding.
  • Provide leadership to volunteers for all funding and program activities.
    Work with the Finance Department to ensure department and grant budgets are effectively managed.

V. Additional Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in all TUW events and activities, demonstrating the ability to be a good colleague and team builder.
  • Embrace all aspects of diversity, ensuring that the department is culturally sensitive and accepting of individual differences.
  • Perform other essential functions as directed by the Senior Vice President of Community Building.

Required Skills:

Demonstrated ability and skill in leading and supporting a diverse group of volunteer community leaders; ability to plan, organize and facilitate meetings; ability to provide technical assistance to funded and prospective partners; ability to effectively manage a budget and control costs; ability to clearly and effectively communicate orally and in writing; ability to research and write grants; ability to build and maintain community coalitions, collaborations and partnerships; ability to inspire elected officials and other community leaders to create public policy that supports the TUW Public Policy Agenda; ability to negotiate or resolve intra-organizational issues; ability to attend to detail, maintain accurate records and efficiently use the computer, including the Microsoft Office suite of programs; ability to adjust to changes and to work effectively under stress; ability to initiate action and work independently and as part of a team.

Required Education and Experience:

Education: Master's degree in a Health related field preferred.

Experience:

  • Seven plus years of proven success in working with low income children and adults in helping them gain access to healthcare and prevent chronic diseases.
  • 3+years experience as an Executive Director of a moderate size non-profit organization or
  • 5+ years experience as a high level Program Director, preferably in more than one organization
  • 2-3 years program evaluation experience, measuring outcomes and using data to improve program performance
  • 2-3 years successful grant writing and fund-raising experience
